Islamabad, July 08 (QNA) – Pakistani rescue teams on Wednesday recovered the wreckage of a Boeing 737 cargo aircraft during a deep-sea search operation, 12 hours after it went missing off the coast of Karachi, as efforts continued to locate the five crew members onboard.
The Pakistan Airports Authority said in a statement that the wreckage of the K2 Airways cargo aircraft was recovered 53 nautical miles, or about 98 kilometers, south of Ormara Port.
The authority said the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency deployed various air and maritime resources to pinpoint the wreckage’s location, adding that the search for the crew members remains underway.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to accelerate search operations for the aircraft, which lost contact over the Arabian Sea after a navigation system glitch was reported.
K2 Airways, the aircraft operator, said the crew consisted of two pilots, two engineers and one support staff member, while authorities haven’t issued an official statement on their condition.
Pakistani aviation authorities said Tuesday that the cargo aircraft lost contact with air traffic control after a navigation system malfunction was reported while it was en route to Karachi. (QNA)
