Beirut, July 06 (QNA) – Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun called for increased pressure on Israeli entity to withdraw from occupied Lebanese territory, saying its continued presence undermines state authority and efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.

During a call with American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL), President Aoun urged support for the US-brokered framework agreement with Israel to ensure the implementation of its provisions, particularly those related to extending the authority of the Lebanese state across its entire territory.

According to a statement issued by the Lebanese Presidency, Aoun stressed that the Lebanese Armed Forces and security agencies remain the cornerstone of stability in southern Lebanon and are essential to enabling residents to return to their homes. He emphasized that there is no prospect of a return to civil war in Lebanon.

The Lebanese president reviewed the history of relations between Lebanon and Israeli entity since 1949, including successive military confrontations, the 1969 Cairo Agreement, and developments leading to the current situation.

He called on the US administration to intensify efforts to secure an Israeli withdrawal, describing it as a prerequisite for achieving tangible progress in the peace process and ensuring lasting security and stability along Lebanon’s southern border.

The framework agreement between Lebanon and Israeli entity includes security arrangements, the redeployment of the Lebanese army, confidence-building measures between the two sides, as well as provisions related to the reconstruction of affected areas and support for the Lebanese economy. (QNA)
