Khartoum, July 25 (SUNA) – Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris on Saturday addressed the First Hope Forum on Mining Issues – Challenges and Solutions, held under the theme “Towards Responsible Mining and Balanced, Sustainable Development,” with broad participation from ministers, state walis and region governors and officials from relevant institutions. Idris said the forum holds great strategic importance as it addresses the future of the mining sector, describing it as an important opportunity to bring about a qualitative transformation in the country’s economy. He stressed the need for close coordination between the federal government and states in mining-related policies, legislation and technical procedures. He also highlighted the importance of organising and regulating artisanal mining to protect the state, citizens, miners and the environment from the risks associated with traditional mining. The Prime Minister called for greater attention to geological surveying projects to promote domestic and foreign investment and support economic development. He stressed that corporate social responsibility must be genuine and productive, supporting the aspirations of the state and society. At the conclusion of the forum, Idris received the National Document on Mining Issues – First Hope Forum, affirming the need for practical and implementable recommendations with clear timelines. He called for the forum to be held annually to review progress and follow up on the implementation of recommendations to ensure the continued development of Sudan’s mining sector.BH/BH
