Riyadh, June 22 (QNA) – Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind (QSCCB) participated in the dialogue workshop with persons with disabilities on the third report regarding the prospects for the implementation and monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The workshop was held at the headquarters of the GCC General Secretariat in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

The workshop brought together representatives from relevant authorities, persons with disabilities, and civil society organizations from various Gulf countries to discuss the current state of implementation of the international convention, review progress achieved, and address existing challenges in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities.

The workshop highlighted the indicators and general features of the draft third report, the methodology used in its preparation, as well as discussions on the role of associations and organizations representing persons with disabilities in enhancing their participation and incorporating their views and proposals throughout the various stages of preparing reports and monitoring the implementation of obligations related to the convention.

QSCCB Chairman Faisal Al Kooheji stressed that participation in this Gulf dialogue workshop reflects the importance of involving persons with disabilities and their representative organizations in discussing and monitoring the implementation of the CRPD, ensuring that their voices and aspirations reach the relevant authorities and decision-makers.

Al Kooheji said this workshop represents an important opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the third report regarding the prospects for the implementation and monitoring of the CRPD in the GCC countries.

It also provides an opportunity to exchange expertise and experiences among institutions and organizations working in this field, contributing to the promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities and enabling them to fully and effectively participate in society.

The center’s participation comes as part of its commitment to strengthening its presence in Gulf and regional forums related to disability issues, and to contributing to the exchange of expertise and successful experiences in a way that supports efforts aimed at promoting inclusion, equal opportunities, and the empowerment of persons with disabilities in various fields.
