Social Security Corporation to extend social security coverage to freelancers

Amman, July 26 (Petra) — The Social Security Corporation (SSC)
announced Sunday it is finalizing legal and procedural arrangements
to extend social security coverage to freelancers and self-employed
craftspeople across Jordan.

The new framework introduces flexible contribution tiers designed
around the variable nature and income of gig work, developed in
coordination with relevant sector regulators.

Initial priority will be given to high-risk occupations prone to
workplace accidents, according to an SSC statement, specifically
drivers working for ride-hailing and delivery apps. High incidence
rates of traffic accidents make these workers among the most in need
of institutional protection.

To accommodate varying income levels, app-based workers will be
offered flexible payment options for old-age, disability, and death
insurance, choosing between 50%, 75%, or 100% contribution tiers.
However, coverage for work injuries, maternity, and unemployment will
remain mandatory at full (100%) capacity.
