Abu Dhabi, April 08 (QNA) – The UAE said that it is closely following the US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, stressing the necessity for Iran to immediately cease all hostile actions in the region and fully and unconditionally reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the Iranian attacks targeting Emirati infrastructure, energy facilities, and civilian sites over the past 40 days, which included approximately 2,760 ballistic and cruise missiles and drones, and the resulting human and material losses, necessitate firm stances, holding Iran accountable, and ensuring full compensation for the damages and losses.

The UAE affirmed that it was not a party to this war and exerted intensive diplomatic efforts to prevent it, including bilateral channels and actions through the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), noting that it has been able to protect its sovereignty, security, and national interests with utmost resolve.

The statement stressed the need for Iran to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026) of 11 March 2026, which condemned Iranian attacks and demanded their immediate cessation. (QNA)
