London, July 22 (Petra) – British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has called for an immediate end to the war in Gaza and announced £60 million in UK funding to support humanitarian and medical efforts in the besieged territory.
In remarks delivered to Parliament excerpts of which were published by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office on its official X account Lammy sharply criticized Israel’s newly introduced aid distribution system, describing it as “inhumane and dangerous.” He said the mechanism forces civilians, including children, to scramble unsafely for basic necessities, resulting in devastating human losses.
Lammy further noted that the Israeli military has displaced Palestinians from 86 percent of Gaza, leaving around two million people trapped in an area of no more than 20 square miles. “This is not about protecting civilians,” he said. “This is putting them in grave danger.”
The foreign secretary also warned of a rapidly advancing campaign in the West Bank aimed at preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state. He attributed this to the extremist ideological agenda of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, citing unprecedented settlement expansion and rising settler violence as evidence of efforts to dismantle the two-state solution.
Lammy cautioned that Israel’s current policies are damaging its international standing and undermining its own security. He urged Netanyahu to listen to his people, pointing out that 82 percent of Israelis now support a ceasefire.
