New York, Feb. 5 (Petra) United Nations Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres emphasized on Wednesday the necessity of avoiding any form of ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
During the opening of the UN’s annual meeting on the exercise of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, Guterres stressed the need to adhere to international law and avoid any form of ethnic cleansing, reiterating the principle of a two-state solution: Israel and Palestine.
The UN Secretary-General warned against what he described as “the horrifying and systematic dehumanization and demonization of an entire people,” adding that any lasting peace will require irreversible, concrete progress toward a two-state solution, ending the occupation, and establishing an independent Palestinian state, of which Gaza would be an integral part.
He affirmed that the only sustainable solution for stability in the Middle East is the establishment of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state, living side by side in peace and security with Israel.
