
Amman, May 8 (Petra) – Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Soud, and the German Ambassador to Jordan, Dr. Bertram von Moltke, launched the website and digital library of the ministry’s Water Documentation and Awareness Centre (WDAC) on Thursday, as part of the 7th Arab Water Week conference.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Abu Soud noted the website and digital library are ” crucial and qualitative” achievement in raising awareness on the importance of sustainable water management and support for the “comprehensive” digital transformation of the Kingdom’s water sector.
The minister praised efforts of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in supporting the Kingdom’s water sector.
Abu Soud stated the website and digital library, implemented by the GIZ, in cooperation with the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), represent two “important” milestones in the “long-standing and solid” bilateral cooperation and partnership in the water sector.
For his part, the envoy underlined importance of the “long-standing” bilateral partnership, voicing Germany’s commitment to supporting its partners in Jordan in addressing water sector challenges.
The diplomat added that the digital library and website represent a “distinguished leap in the progress” of the center, which was inaugurated at the end of 2023, within support provided by GIZ and BGR projects.
The two platforms, available in Arabic and English, complement each other, the digital library provides a “wide” range of studies on the water sector.
The website constitutes a “central” knowledge base for documented information in this field, providing a “flexible and easy-to-use” solution for all target groups, including researchers, scholars, water experts, partners, and decision-makers.
