Port Sudan, Jan. 13, 2026 (SUNA) — The official ceremony marking the recovery of 570 plundered Sudanese antiquities was launched on Tuesday in Port Sudan. The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism as part of national efforts to safeguard cultural heritage and preserve the country’s historical memory.The recovered artifacts were smuggled during the war ignited by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, and their return underscores the state’s determination to protect Sudan’s antiquities and reclaim its looted heritage.The ceremony was attended by Secretary-General of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Lt. Gen. Mohamed Al-Ghali, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism Khalid Al-Eisir, alongside Undersecretaries of the Ministry Dr. Graham Abdel-Qadir and Somaya Al-Hadi. Also present were the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Director of the General Intelligence Service, the UNESCO Representative in Sudan, senior police officials, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Sudan.The event drew broad media coverage and was attended by a number of senior state officials.The ceremony concluded the ministry’s activities at its temporary headquarters in Port Sudan under the slogan “A Fragrant Finale”, reaffirming that antiquities are not merely remnants of the past but pillars of national identity and an inalienable right of future generations.
