Manila, September 10 (QNA) – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said at least five people have died and 87 are missing after a fire broke out on a ferry near a tourist area in Palawan province in the western Philippines.
Commodore of the PCG Noemie Guirao-Cayabyab told local media that 42 people were rescued and the bodies of five were recovered, while 87 remain missing. She added that the ferry was carrying 134 people, including crew members, noting that efforts to extinguish the fire are still underway.
According to data from the Marine Traffic website, the ferry, named MV June Aster, had departed from Manila and caught fire approximately 2.2 KM from the coast. (QNA)
