Warns of Persistent Targeting of Civilians in Sudan

York, 15 Sep 2026 (ONA) — The United Nations has warned that the continuation
of drone strikes and other hostilities is endangering civilians and driving
populations to flee their homes in the Darfur and Kordofan regions and Blue
Nile State in Sudan.

Deputy
Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq explained that Blue Nile
State yesterday witnessed drone attacks targeting vital facilities and
resulting in civilian injuries, while the International Organization for Migration
estimated that some 100,000 people had been displaced in the region since last
January, an increase of 66 percent since late May.

He
stated that reports indicated in North Darfur that several sites in the Al-Tina
area on the border with Chad were subjected to drone strikes, while the
International Organization for Migration recorded the displacement of some
1,200 people from two villages in El Fasher during the period from 10 to 13
September, alongside the displacement of more than 1,200 people from villages
in the Um Baru area during the past week, with reports indicating that most of
them crossed the border into Chad.

He
said that West Darfur witnessed drone attacks on several sites last Saturday,
explaining that local sources reported that a drone targeted a fuel market in a
town west of the state capital, while two other towns were subjected to
bombardment, resulting in injuries.

He
explained that the continued insecurity in the Kordofan region has exacerbated
displacement and disrupted humanitarian operations, noting that more than 7,000
people had arrived in the town of Al-Abbasiya in South Kordofan coming from
surrounding villages during recent weeks.
