Magnitude 4.5 Earthquake Strikes Coast of Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture

Tokyo, September 22 (QNA) – An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck on Tuesday off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.

Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 30 kilometers, noting that no tsunami warnings were issued.

Japan is situated at the junction of four tectonic plates, making it particularly prone to seismic activity. In 2011, an earthquake measuring 9.0 magnitude struck Japan, accompanied by a massive tsunami, killing over 15,000 people and triggering a disaster at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. (QNA)
