Amman, Sept 12 (Petra) – Seven inmates at the Ain al-Arab prison in
the Aleppo countryside in Syria died, and a number of others suffered
from smoke inhalation following a fire that broke out in the facility
on Saturday, the Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported.
Quoting a security source, the agency reported that the fire erupted
during chaos instigated by inmates following riots in the city
yesterday.
The source said the prison is still managed by previous staff and has
not yet been handed over to the Internal Security Forces.
