Amman, July 2 (Petra) — Minister of Agriculture and Chairman of the
Jordan Cooperative Corporation (JCC) Board, Saeb Khraisat, on
Thursday checked on the corporation’s current operations and the
programs and projects implemented to support the Kingdom’s
cooperative sector.

Khraisat commended the JCC’s supervisory and administrative role in
implementing the seed multiplication project and overseeing the
collection of wheat and barley crops from farmers during the current
agricultural season.

He also praised JCC’s management of wheat and barley seed cleaning
and sterilization operations, aimed at providing farmers with
high-quality certified seeds.

He called for classifying cooperative societies, in accordance with
the nature of their activities and areas of specialization to improve
their “efficiency” and strengthen the services they provide to
members.

Khraisat also reviewed progress on the wool shearing project in the
Qatraneh District, which is implemented with support from the United
Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in cooperation with the
Ministry of Agriculture and managed by the JCC. The project aims to
support livestock breeders and increase the added value of their
products.

Via video conference, Khraisat also joined part of a joint meeting
between the JCC, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and
experts working on updating cooperative legislation.

The proposed amendments cover the Cooperative Development Fund (CDF),
the Cooperative Development Institute (CDI), and regulations
governing cooperatives and their unions.

As for future steps, he noted importance of modernizing the
legislative framework governing the cooperative sector to align with
the best international practices to enhance its efficiency.

Khraisat praised the corporation’s efforts to expand partnerships
with national institutions and international organizations to
facilitate cooperatives’ access to financial support for development
projects, while providing training and technical assistance.

Commending the ILO’s support for strengthening capacities of the
corporation’s staff and cooperative members, he said this effort
contributes to the preparation of the National Strategy for the
Jordanian Cooperative Movement, and supports automation of services
and digital transformation initiatives aimed at improving
institutional performance and service delivery.
