Amman, July 1 (Petra) – The Jordan Media Credibility Monitor (AKEED)
recorded 92 rumors in June, down about 24 percent from 121 in May,
with social media accounting for 73.91 percent of the total.

AKEED, which is affiliated with the Jordan Media Institute and funded
by the King Abdullah II Fund for Development, said social media
remained the primary source of rumors, reflecting the rapid spread of
digital content and limited platform controls to curb misinformation
and related hate speech.

The report noted a shift from political and regional issues toward
domestic topics, particularly Jordan’s national football team and its
participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Public affairs topped the list with 21 rumors, accounting for 22.83
percent of the total. Political and social issues followed with 20
rumors each, or 21.74 percent, while economic issues accounted for 17
rumors, or 18.48 percent. Health-related rumors totaled nine,
representing 9.78 percent, while security-related rumors ranked last
with five, or 5.43 percent. Social media platforms circulated 68
rumors, compared with 24 rumors, or 26.09 percent, carried by various
media outlets.

The report found that 76 rumors, or 82.61 percent, originated
domestically, while 16, or 17.39 percent, came from external sources.

AKEED said rumors were increasingly linked to events attracting
widespread public interest and had expanded beyond politics to
include sports, public services, and health.

The monitor also recorded 47 official statements issued in June by
government institutions, public bodies, professional associations,
societies, and federations, reflecting continued institutional
efforts to counter misinformation and limit its spread.

AKEED publishes periodic reports based on daily, monthly, and annual
monitoring of rumors and verification of misleading and inaccurate
information circulated through the media.
