Salt, July 5 (Petra) — Al-Hussein New Salt Hospital has successfully
performed the Ministry of Health’s first total ankle replacement
surgery, marking a milestone in the expansion of specialized
orthopedic services within Jordan’s public healthcare sector.

The procedure was carried out by a multidisciplinary medical team
under the directives of Minister of Health Dr. Ibrahim Al-Badour,
with direct supervision from Head of Orthopedic Surgery at the
Ministry of Health Dr. Iyad Bani Tarif and Director of Al-Hussein New
Salt Hospital Dr. Rami Bashir Abu Rumman.

The operation followed weeks of intensive planning and preparation,
during which the hospital secured the specialized equipment, medical
devices and surgical supplies required to perform the procedure in
accordance with international medical standards.

The surgical team brought together specialists from the Ministry of
Health and Al-Balqa Applied University, including foot and ankle
surgery consultant Dr. Mohammad Khreisat from the university’s
Faculty of Medicine, orthopedic consultants Dr. Omar Al-Ababneh and
Dr. Bahaa Aql.

The anesthesia team, comprising Dr. Mujahid Haboush and Dr. Lamees
Al-Raqad, worked alongside nursing staff, operating room personnel,
radiology technicians and anesthesia technicians, whose coordinated
efforts contributed to the success of the complex procedure.

The surgery was supervised by Head of Orthopedic Surgery at the
hospital Dr. Mohammad Abdul Aziz Al-Sarhanah. Hospital officials also
credited Head of the Anesthesia Department Dr. Thalji Al-Rubdi, Head
of the Operating Rooms Department Mohammad Radwan and the close
collaboration among the hospital’s various departments for ensuring
the successful outcome.

Abu Rumman said the achievement reflects the Ministry of Health’s
ongoing efforts to introduce advanced surgical procedures and expand
specialized medical services across its hospitals, enabling patients
to receive high-quality care closer to home.

He added that the ministry remains committed to equipping its
hospitals with advanced medical technologies, attracting specialized
expertise and providing continuous training for healthcare
professionals on the latest surgical techniques, while reducing the
need to refer patients to other treatment centers.
