Amman, Sept. 16 (Petra) — Arab and Islamic nations alongside
regional organizations on Wednesday strongly condemned an attempted
Houthi drone attack targeting Mecca, reaffirming their full
solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supporting measures taken by the
Kingdom to safeguard its sovereignty and security.

The Palestinian Presidency described the targeting of Mecca the
holiest site in Islam as a dangerous criminal act and a blatant
violation of Islamic sanctities, threatening Saudi Arabia’s security
and the safety of its citizens, residents, and pilgrims. It
emphasized that the security of the Kingdom and the Two Holy Mosques
remains an integral part of Arab and Islamic national security.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) similarly condemned the
attack, stating that targeting holy sites violates their sanctity and
provokes Muslims worldwide. The OIC reiterated its firm support for
Saudi Arabia’s right to protect its security and holy places.

In Kuwait, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the drone
attempt, emphasizing Kuwait’s total solidarity with Saudi measures to
protect its sovereignty and the holy sites. Pakistani Prime Minister
Shehbaz Sharif and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim both
expressed strong condemnation, stressing that any threat to Mecca is
unacceptable and calling for an immediate end to attacks on civilian
and holy locations.

The Yemeni government held the Houthi movement and its key backer,
Iran, responsible for the escalation, urging firm international and
regional action to halt drone strikes and cut off weapons supplies to
the group.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) issued a strong condemnation, with
GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi describing the attack
as an unprecedented and dangerous escalation. He emphasized that the
GCC stands united with Saudi Arabia, adding that any threat to the
Kingdom’s stability affects the security of all Gulf states.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Department of Foreign
Relations also condemned the attack, stating that Saudi Arabia’s
security is fundamental to regional stability and calling for clear
global condemnation of threats to Islamic holy sites.
