Cairo, Sept. 6 (Petra) – The Arab League stressed the “irreplaceable
role” of UNRWA across its five operational areas on Sunday, stating
that “no alternative agency can deliver essential health and
education services to millions of Palestinian refugees.”
Meeting with Acting UNRWA Commissioner-General Christian Saunders,
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said Israeli efforts to
undermine the agency in the occupied Palestinian territories aim to
eliminate the refugee issue and deny Palestinians essential services.
Fahmy urged donors to bridge UNRWA’s budget gap to prevent aid cuts,
stressing the need to protect its 1949 UN mandate and push back
against claims targeting its neutrality.
