Amman, Aug. 28 (Petra)– The Southern Military Zone foiled a major
drug-smuggling attempt early Friday after detecting a guided balloon
as it attempted to cross the border into Jordanian territory.
Border Guard units operating within their area of responsibility
detected and intercepted the balloon and brought it down inside
Jordanian territory. The drugs it was carrying were seized in
coordination with the relevant security and military agencies and the
Anti-Narcotics Department.
The seized items were handed over to the competent authorities to
take the necessary legal measures.
The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army affirmed their continued efforts to
counter smuggling and infiltration attempts along the Kingdom’s
borders, monitor the various methods and means used in such
operations, and take the necessary operational measures to thwart
them.
Border Guard units continue to carry out their duties to protect the
Kingdom’s borders and prevent any attempts that could threaten its
security and stability.
