Climate Resilience Program Advances Water-Efficient Agriculture in Southern Jordan

Karak, Aug. 31 (Petra) — A capacity-building program aimed at
improving water use efficiency and strengthening agricultural
communities’ resilience to climate change is continuing in Karak,
Tafila and Ma’an governorates under the “Building Resilience to
Climate Change in Jordan through Improving Water Use Efficiency in
Agriculture” (BRCCJ) project.

Implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations (FAO) in cooperation with FAL Consulting and Management
Services, the program brings together representatives of agricultural
cooperatives and civil society organizations for training on
sustainable agriculture and climate change adaptation, according to a
FAO statement issued Monday.

The second phase covers climate-smart agriculture, sustainable water
management, modern irrigation techniques, fertigation, hydroponics,
crop management and integrated pest management.

The program combines classroom training with practical exercises and
field visits, enabling participants to apply climate-smart
agricultural technologies and practices and share their knowledge
with local communities.

The project seeks to strengthen Jordan’s resilience to climate
change, particularly water scarcity and growing pressure on water and
agricultural resources, by helping communities adopt more sustainable
and adaptive practices.

Funded by the Green Climate Fund and implemented under the Economic
Modernization Vision, the project covers Madaba, Karak, Tafila and
Ma’an in the Dead Sea Basin, areas considered particularly vulnerable
to climate change and water scarcity.
