Doha, October 09 (QNA) – Al Ahli’s Spanish coach Borja Jimenez confirmed his team’s readiness to face Al Sailiya on Saturday at Al Thumama Stadium in Week 5 of the Qatar football league (Doha Bank Stars League), stressing the importance of securing victory and improving the team’s position in the standings.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Jimenez said his team had prepared well during the league break, both physically and psychologically. He explained that preparations had included addressing technical issues identified in previous rounds to improve the team’s performance in the upcoming phase.
He expressed confidence in the players’ ability to deliver the expected performance and secure victory, stressing that they understood the importance of the coming period and the need to collect points.
For his part, Al Ahli’s Nigerian defender William Troost-Ekong confirmed the team was for the encounter, noting that the players were determined to continue securing victories in the upcoming matches, with a clear focus on collecting points before the next international break.
Meanwhile, Al Sailiya coach Mirghani Al Zain said the league break had provided an important opportunity to prepare the team, which played four friendly matches to ensure that as many players as possible were ready, correct mistakes and improve technical and tactical performance.
He said that the players had demonstrated discipline and a strong desire to improve, particularly in tactical and organizational aspects. He acknowledged the difficulty of facing Al Ahli while expressing hope that his team would deliver the required performance and secure all three points.
Al Sailiya player Abdulaziz Metwally said the team had focused during the break on addressing weaknesses and correcting mistakes from previous matches, noting that recent preparations had positively affected the players’ performances.
He added that Al Sailiya were aiming to secure their first victory of the competition against Al Ahli, which would provide a morale boost and mark a positive start for the team in the upcoming phase.
Al Ahli are currently ninth place in the standings with four points from one win, one draw and two defeats, while Al Sailiya sit bottom in 12th place without a point after suffering four consecutive defeats. (QNA)
