Climbs as Markets Brace for Rate Decisions and Oil Surges Past $100

Washington,
14 Sep 2026 (ONA) — The dollar rose today, while the yen’s advance stalled,
as markets awaited interest rate decisions from the US Federal Reserve and the
Bank of Japan this week, amid waning risk appetite as oil prices climbed above
$100 per barrel.

The
dollar index rose 0.23 percent to 99.34 points, while the euro fell 0.28
percent to $1.1565, and sterling stood at $1.3503.

The
European Central Bank had raised interest rates last week, warning of the
possibility of further hikes, while the Bank of England is expected to keep
rates unchanged on Thursday.

US
Treasury yields remained near multi-year highs, with the two-year yield
reaching 4.61 percent after climbing 26 basis points last week.

In
Japan, the yen fell 0.3 percent to 154.03 against the dollar, but remained
close to its seven-month high of 152.89 reached last week.

The
yen has gained about four percent since the start of September, buoyed by
expectations that the Bank of Japan will accelerate the pace of rate hikes,
alongside the possibility of Japanese investors repatriating some of their
assets.

Brent
crude futures rose two percent to $106.7 per barrel, amid mounting supply
concerns following fresh attacks in the region and the closure of a major Saudi
oil pipeline.

Expectations
suggest the Bank of Japan may shift to raising interest rates once every
quarter, compared with its previous pace of roughly once every six months.
