EMRC Denies Applying Time-Based Electricity Tariff to Residential Sector

Amman, July 2 (Petra) — The Energy and Minerals Regulatory
Commission (EMRC) on Thursday denied reports that a decision had been
issued to apply the time-based electricity tariff to the residential
sector or to increase electricity tariffs for household consumers.

In an official press statement, the commission clarified that the
time-based electricity tariff mechanism was explicitly limited to
specific sectors when it was initially rolled out. The EMRC
reaffirmed that the household segment remains entirely excluded from
this framework.

The regulatory body emphasized that comprehensive technical and
regulatory studies strictly guide any updates or amendments to the
national electricity tariff structure. These evaluations are carried
out within the legal jurisdictions granted to the commission under
active legislation.
