Amman, July 14 (Petra) – The Ministry of Environment held a
high-level event titled “Green Growth in Jordan: The Way Forward” to
advance national dialogue on Jordan’s green transition and review
progress under the Sustainable Environment driver of the second
executive program of the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV).

The event brought together representatives of ministries, public
institutions, the private sector, development partners, and
diplomatic missions, the ministry said in a statement Tuesday.

Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman said Jordan continues to
implement the EMV as a comprehensive national framework for
sustainable economic growth, stronger competitiveness, and a
development model capable of responding to global challenges and
benefiting from green economy opportunities.

Suleiman said the Sustainable Environment driver is a key pillar of
the EMV, given its role in protecting natural resources,
strengthening climate resilience, improving quality of life, and
creating an investment-friendly environment. He added that the
ministry, in cooperation with partners, is implementing reforms,
policies, and projects to support the transition toward a
low-emission, more efficient, and sustainable green economy.

Assistant Secretary-General for Technical Affairs at the Ministry of
Environment Maha Maaytah presented key achievements under the
Sustainable Environment driver, future priorities, and strategic
projects aimed at improving sustainable natural resource management,
strengthening climate action, and upgrading environmental performance
in line with national targets.

The event also included a panel titled “How Close Are We to Achieving
the Sustainable Environment Driver Targets?” Participants included
Government Achievement Unit Director at the Prime Ministry Raafat
Daasan, Director of the German Development Agency’s (GIZ) GAIN
Project Simon Floeth, and United Nations Development Program (UNDP)
Climate and Energy Team Leader in Jordan Rana Saleh.

The panel discussed progress in implementing the driver’s targets,
key challenges and opportunities, and ways to expand partnerships
between the public and private sectors and development partners to
accelerate implementation and achieve EMV targets.

At the close of the event, Ministry of Environment Secretary-General
Omar Arabiyat launched the ministry’s 2026–2029 strategy, which will
guide the ministry’s work over the next four years. The strategy
focuses on strengthening climate action, accelerating green growth,
protecting natural resources and biodiversity, and developing
environmental governance.

Arabiyat said the strategy aligns with the EMV, the Public Sector
Modernization Roadmap, and Jordan’s national and international
commitments in environment and sustainable development.

He said the strategy marks an important step in developing Jordan’s
environmental sector and reflects the ministry’s commitment to
updating environmental policies, legislation, and programs in line
with best practices. He added that it will improve institutional
performance, strengthen Jordan’s ability to address environmental and
climate challenges, and balance economic development with natural
resource protection.

Arabiyat said the event reflects the ministry’s partnership-based
approach with national and international institutions and underscored
the importance of unified efforts to advance Jordan’s green
transition, strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a regional model for
sustainable development and green economy policies, and translate
Royal directives into a more sustainable and prosperous future.
