Brussels, June 23 (QNA) – The European Council on Tuesday called on Israel to allow the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid into all parts of the Gaza Strip immediately.
Upon wrapping up its meeting, which convened leaders of the European Union recently in Brussels, Belgium, the Council called for the opening of crossings, transit points, and a medical corridor between the enclave, the West Bank, and Jerusalem.
It stressed the repudiation of Israeli unilateral measures in the occupied Palestinian territory, and demanded that the United Nations, its agencies, and humanitarian organizations be enabled to operate independently, and that international media corps be allowed access.
The Council further stressed the importance of revoking the law on the registration of non-governmental organizations, together with thorough adherence to international law and the unalterable obligation to always protect civilians.
All withheld Palestinian revenues and financial proceeds must be released, along with the preservation of correspondent banking services between Palestinian and Israeli banks, given their indispensable role in sustaining Palestinian institutions and preventing further erosion of their capacity to provide essential services to the Palestinian people, the Council demanded.
As such, European leaders stressed that they are deeply perturbed by the worsening situation in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, coupled with the relentless catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the Strip.
They underscored the importance of taking urgent measures to mitigate civilian suffering and create conditions conducive to achieving lasting peace. (QNA)
