Ajloun, July 29 (Petra) – The Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy
Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) announced Wednesday the completion of the
first phase of a project to install solar water heating systems at
public hospitals in northern Jordan, with support from the Italian
government.
The fund indicated that installation and commissioning works had been
finalized at Al-Iman Government Hospital in Ajloun Governorate, where
the system provides hot-water storage capacity of 6,000 liters.
In a statement, JREEEF explained that the first phase covered nine
public hospitals in northern governorates, providing a combined
hot-water storage capacity of 35,000 liters. The fund noted that Nur
Solar Systems carried out the first phase under its technical
supervision to ensure operational efficiency and long-term
sustainability of the installed systems.
JREEEF Director Rasmi Hamza, accompanied by a technical team and
representatives from the Ministry of Health, visited Al-Iman
Government Hospital to review the completed system and confirm its
compliance with approved technical specifications.
Hamza highlighted that the project seeks to enhance energy efficiency
in the healthcare sector by providing a sustainable hot-water source,
while lowering conventional fuel consumption and operational costs.
According to the fund’s project indicators, the first phase is
expected to generate annual savings of approximately JD43,000 and
reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 140 metric tons per year.
The fund pointed out that Al-Iman Government Hospital represents
around 17.1 percent of the first phase’s total storage capacity. Its
system is projected to produce about 6,000 liters of hot water daily,
save nearly JD7,400 annually, and cut carbon dioxide emissions by
approximately 24 metric tons per year.
JREEEF added that the wider project targets 33 public hospitals
across three phases, with a total cost of JD3.2 million. Upon
completion, the project is expected to generate around 217,000 liters
of hot water daily, achieve annual savings of JD266,407 and reduce
carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 866 metric tons, according
to the fund.
The fund emphasized that the project aligns with the Economic
Modernization Vision, the Energy Sector Strategy and Jordan’s
nationally determined contributions (NDCs).
