Damascus, Sept. 9 (Petra) – Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with
Syrian President Ahmed Sharaa on Wednesday at the People’s Palace to
advance bilateral relations, discuss regional security, and prepare
for upcoming high-level economic talks.

Safadi voiced Jordan’s commitment to Syria’s reconstruction,
sovereignty, and long-term stability, and conveyed His Majesty King
Abdullah II’s greetings.

Sharaa expressed Syria’s intent to deepen strategic ties and expand
economic cooperation across priority sectors.

Following the presidential audience, Safadi held talks with Syrian
Foreign Minister Asaad Shaibani. The ministers reviewed plans for
October’s Syrian-Jordanian Supreme Coordination Council meeting in
Damascus, targeting joint projects in trade, investment, transport,
customs, water, and energy.

Both ministers also evaluated the joint Jordanian-Syrian-US roadmap
for stabilizing southern Syria and resolving the situation in Sweida
while upholding Syrian sovereignty.

Safadi welcomed the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)
and their integration into national military institutions, describing
the move as a “crucial step” toward restoring Syria’s unity and state
authority.

Turning to regional threats, Safadi and Shaibani jointly condemned
Israeli incursions into Syrian territory as “severe violations” of
international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, warning that
continuous strikes destabilize the region while Damascus works toward
reconstruction and diplomatic resolution.

Additionally, the ministers denounced the recent Iranian missile
strikes targeting Jordan and neighboring Arab states. Shaibani voiced
Syria’s solidarity with Jordan, backing the measures taken by Amman
to defend its sovereignty against Iranian attacks.
