France: First Ebola patient recovers

Amman, July 4 (Petra) – France’s first Ebola patient has recovered
and been discharged from hospital, French Health Minister Stéphanie
Rist announced Saturday.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Rist stated that the
patient, a doctor working in the humanitarian sector, returned to
France on June 23 from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where Ebola
remains widespread.

“The patient was discharged today from the healthcare facility where
he was being treated,” the minister said, adding that he experienced
only mild symptoms, received close medical care and monitoring and
was able to return home safely.

A new Ebola outbreak was declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo
on May 15. Government data released on July 2 showed that the
outbreak had resulted in at least 438 deaths among 1,406 reported
cases.
