Advance Sustainable Digital Economy

Muscat, 14 Sep 2026 (ONA) — The Ministry of Transport,
Communications and Information Technology today held the inaugural founding
meeting of the Green Artificial Intelligence Alliance. The meeting was held in
cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Authority for Public
Services Regulation, and was attended by Their Excellencies the
Undersecretaries and a number of representatives from government and private
sector entities.

The meeting discussed the Alliance’s directions and work
streams. These focus on deploying artificial intelligence and high-performance
computing technologies in a sustainable manner. They also aim to enhance the
use of renewable and green energy in developing and operating these
technologies.

The meeting approved the founding document of the Green
Artificial Intelligence Alliance in the Sultanate of Oman and formed the
Alliance’s Technical Committee, in addition to reviewing the 2026 work plan.
This establishes clear pathways for implementing the Alliance’s objectives in
the coming phase.

The establishment of the Alliance is a national initiative that
brings together government entities, the private sector, and academic, research
and investment institutions. It aims to build a national ecosystem supporting
green artificial intelligence. It also seeks to provide a knowledge platform
that attracts local and international partnerships. Furthermore, it supports
the development and implementation of green initiatives and projects with
sustainable economic impact.

Green artificial intelligence is gaining growing importance in
Oman’s journey towards a sustainable digital economy. It is a key enabler for
achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 by balancing economic development
with environmental protection.

Adopting low-emission artificial intelligence technologies and
energy-efficient, environmentally friendly high-performance computing also
helps improve energy efficiency. It supports the transition towards a green
digital economy capable of enhancing Oman’s regional and international
competitiveness.

The meeting addressed several objectives. These include
promoting the use of renewable and green energy sources in artificial
intelligence and high-performance computing technologies. They also include
supporting research and development in net-zero and low-emission computing.
Another objective is developing national capacities and competencies in
sustainable artificial intelligence.

The Alliance also aims to encourage the private sector to adopt
green solutions and technologies in its operations. It seeks to explore and
launch incentives supporting green innovation. This helps accelerate the
adoption of clean technologies and link them to the national sustainable
digital economy ecosystem.

The Alliance works to attract and build local and international
partnerships. It supports the development and implementation of green
initiatives and projects that serve national projects and deliver sustainable
economic returns. It also promotes cooperation in green innovation and benefits
from global expertise and experiences in deploying artificial intelligence and
high-performance computing powered by renewable energy.

The Alliance focuses on enhancing international cooperation in
green innovation. It facilitates the exchange of expertise, knowledge and
standards related to sustainable artificial intelligence. It also builds
partnerships with international organizations and institutions active in this
field. This supports the development of technologies and applications related
to green artificial intelligence.

In the coming phase, the Alliance also aims to expand its
membership base and attract new members at both local and international levels.
It seeks to strengthen its regional and international recognition as an
effective and sustainable national initiative in the fields of green artificial
intelligence and renewable energy.
