Amman, July 20 (Petra) — A persistent air mass is bringing slightly
above-average seasonal temperatures across the Kingdom today,
delivering warm conditions to elevated regions and intense heat to
low-lying areas, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department
(JMD).

Broad high pressure continues to influence the Levant region,
maintaining stable but unseasonably warm atmospheric conditions
across the interior. Moderate northwesterly winds will prevail across
the country, picking up periodically during the afternoon hours and
offering limited relief, primarily over higher ground.

In the capital and interior plains, highs in East Amman will climb to
35 degrees Celsius this afternoon before dropping to an overnight low
of 22 degrees Celsius. West Amman will remain slightly milder,
peaking at 33 degrees Celsius with a low of 20 degrees Celsius. The
surrounding plains will see top temperatures around 34 degrees
Celsius during the peak heating hours of the day.

High-elevation areas will offer relatively cooler daytime conditions,
with the Northern Highlands topping out at 31 degrees Celsius and the
Sharrah Highlands reaching 32 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the
eastern Badia regions face harsh desert heat, reaching daytime peaks
of 39 degrees Celsius.

Extreme heat conditions will dominate the Jordan Valley and southern
coast due to low elevation and terrain dynamics. Highs in the
Northern Ghor will hit 42 degrees Celsius, while the Southern Ghor
will reach 43 degrees Celsius. The Dead Sea is forecasting a high of
42 degrees Celsius, and Aqaba will top out at 43 degrees Celsius,
with overnight temperatures remaining elevated at 28 degrees Celsius.

Synoptic models indicate little structural change in the weather
pattern over the next 48 hours. Tuesday will see near-identical
conditions, followed by a slight thermal bump on Wednesday that will
push mercury levels up across most districts. Elevated heat indices
will remain the primary operational feature through Thursday.
