Washington, June 28 (QNA) – Instagram is testing new tools that will give users more control over the algorithm that displays the content they see.
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri indicated that new tests are underway to expand the capabilities of the Your Algorithm feature, which allows users to customize the algorithm that displays posts and videos. He explained that Instagram aims to transform Your Algorithm from a mere in-app setting into a core element of the daily user experience.
This feature allows users to specify the topics they want to see more of or less of in their feed. Launched last year, the feature has been gradually rolled out across the app.
“We want to evolve Your Algorithm from a setting to something that feels central to your experience on Instagram,” Mosseri said. He also noted, “some of this is testing now, some is coming soon, some might not work.”
The examples showcased several new ways to access algorithm customization settings, including the Your Algorithm menu when swiping down on the home screen, or a similar window appearing when scrolling up while watching a Reel.
Instagram is also testing the addition of buttons below each Reel that allow users to indicate whether they want to see more or fewer similar videos, giving them direct control over the platform’s recommendations.
Despite these steps, the most prominent user comments on Mosseri’s post were a consistent request for the algorithm to prioritize posts from accounts users already follow instead of suggesting new content. (QNA)
