Jerash, July 19 (Petra) — The Jerash Governorate and the Yarmouk
Water Company on Sunday reviewed measures to upgrade water and
sanitation services and prepare infrastructure to meet rising demand
driven by tourism activity and development growth.

Jerash Governor Malek Khraisat stressed the importance of continued
coordination between the governorate and Yarmouk Water Company,
underlining that the governorate will support the company’s plans and
projects to improve services and meet citizens’ needs.

He said ensuring citizens’ access to water in accordance with
approved distribution schedules remains a top priority, stressing
that the governorate will take firm legal action against violations
involving water networks, meter tampering or illegal connections that
undermine fair distribution and affect service delivery.

Yarmouk Water Company Chairperson Osama Muhaisen highlighted the
importance of developing water infrastructure, improving operational
efficiency and addressing sector challenges to ensure sustainable
water supplies and support development efforts in the northern
governorates.

He noted that Jerash’s expanding tourism sector, including
preparations for the upcoming Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts,
along with increasing development investments, require continued
improvements in water and sanitation services to meet growing demand.

Muhaisen said the company is implementing a comprehensive development
program under its management contract with French company Veolia,
aimed at improving administrative and operational efficiency,
strengthening institutional performance and applying international
best practices in water and sanitation management.

General Manager of the Yarmouk Water Company Ghislain Juvanon said
the company has been assessing operational challenges since the start
of the management contract and developing solutions to address them,
noting that several measures have already contributed to improved
performance.

He added that the company is overseeing projects funded by
international financing institutions and working to reduce water
losses, accelerate infrastructure development and enhance financial
sustainability in line with the objectives of the management
contract.

Juvanon stressed that the company’s success is measured by improving
public satisfaction with water services and preparing the company to
benefit from the National Water Carrier project in the coming period.

Director of the Jerash Water Department Mohammad Atoum said the
department continues implementing operational plans to improve water
supply efficiency across the governorate by strengthening maintenance
teams, expanding field monitoring and improving water distribution
management.

He added that the department is also implementing network
rehabilitation and infrastructure improvement projects in
coordination with Yarmouk Water Company to enhance service quality
and respond to citizens’ needs.
