Amman, July 23 (Petra) — The Jordan Biogas Company, fully owned by
the Greater Amman Municipality, has obtained three internationally
recognized certifications for its management systems, including ISO
9001:2015 for quality management, ISO 14001:2015 for environmental
management, and ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety
management.

According to a statement by the Greater Amman Municipality on
Thursday, the certifications were awarded after the company completed
the required auditing and assessment procedures in accordance with
international standards. The certifications reflect the company’s
efforts to apply quality management practices, protect the
environment, enhance workplace safety, and support continuous
improvement.

Deputy City Manager for Environment and Regions and Deputy Chairman
of the Jordan Biogas Company’s Board of Directors Mohammad Al-Faouri
said the achievement reflects the municipality’s and the company’s
focus on developing institutional work systems and improving
performance efficiency in line with international standards. He added
that it supports the company’s role in managing and utilizing biogas
resources and providing sustainable environmental services.

The Jordan Biogas Company was established in 1998 as a partnership
between the Greater Amman Municipality and the Central Electricity
Generating Company, before the municipality acquired full ownership
in 2020.

The company began its activities through the first project for
utilizing biogas at the former Ruseifa landfill, which was funded by
the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project involved
collecting methane produced from waste decomposition, processing it
to generate electricity, and reducing harmful emissions.

The company later expanded its operations to include the management
and maintenance of the landfill gas recovery and electricity
generation project at Ghabawi landfill east of Amman, which is among
the major waste-to-energy projects in the Kingdom.

To improve the efficiency and production capacity of the facility,
the Greater Amman Municipality began procedures this year to install
a fourth engine for a new generation unit, which is expected to
support the project’s role in promoting the circular economy and
addressing climate change impacts.
