Amman, Sept. 9 (Petra) — Jordan on Wednesday launched a good
governance guide for associations and nonprofit companies aimed at
strengthening transparency, accountability, institutional management,
and the efficient use of resources.

Minister of Social Development and Chairperson of the Associations
Registry Board Wafa Bani Mustafa attended the launch, organized in
partnership with Transparency International and Rasheed for Integrity
and Transparency (Transparency International – Jordan).

The guide is intended to provide associations and nonprofit companies
with a practical framework for governance, disclosure, internal
oversight, risk management, and institutional development.

Bani Mustafa noted that the guide responds to the need to strengthen
organizations’ internal governance and update the previous framework
based on findings from supervisory visits, training programs, and
consultations with sector representatives.

She explained that it will also support the Associations Registry
Department’s classification project by providing a reference
framework to help organizations identify strengths and areas for
improvement and to guide capacity-building programs according to
their needs.

The minister indicated that the guide was developed through a
participatory process with Rasheed for Integrity and Transparency,
the Justice Center for Legal Aid, and other government and civil
society bodies under the EU-funded Empowered and Connected project.

Participants in the preparation process included the Companies
Control Department, the Ministry of Planning and International
Cooperation, the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, and
a number of associations.

European Union Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas
highlighted the role of the guide in promoting good governance
principles and improving the effectiveness of programs and services
provided by civil society organizations.

Transparency International Chair François Valérian pointed to
cooperation between government agencies and civil society
institutions in developing the guide, describing it as a practical
reference for introducing governance principles within organizational
structures.

Executive Director of Rasheed for Integrity and Transparency in
Jordan, Abeer Mdanat, explained that the guide provides a simplified
reference on good governance for civil society organizations,
including associations and nonprofit companies, with a focus on
institutional efficiency, transparency, accountability, integrity,
and the automation of related procedures.

She added that the framework is aligned with Jordanian legislation
and relevant international standards and practices.
