Amman, July 7 (Petra) — The Jordan Standards and Metrology
Organization (JSMO) processed approximately 62 metric tons of locally
produced and imported gold and silver jewelry and bullion during the
first half of 2026 as part of its inspection, hallmarking and legal
purity verification services.
Acting Director General of JSMO Wafaa Momani told the Jordan News
Agency (Petra) that the organization hallmarked 4,850 kilograms of
locally manufactured gold jewelry and 1,750 kilograms of imported
gold jewelry during the reporting period.
She said JSMO also inspected 2,650 kilograms of gold bullion and
49,100 kilograms of silver bullion, while the total volume of silver
jewelry processed reached 3,450 kilograms.
Momani added that the organization conducted 211 inspection visits to
jewelry shops and workshops during the first half of the year.
She said the use of portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers
during inspection campaigns has strengthened field oversight by
enabling inspectors to instantly verify the legal purity of precious
metals without the need to collect samples or damage the inspected
items, while also improving the efficiency of inspection operations.
Momani urged consumers planning to purchase gold jewelry to ensure
that each item carries the official JSMO hallmark and to request a
detailed invoice showing the jeweler’s name or official stamp, the
date of sale, the type of jewelry, its legal purity, weight in grams,
the daily gold price according to the Jordan Jewelers Association’s
official bulletin, manufacturing charges and the total purchase
price.
She also encouraged consumers to report any violations through JSMO’s
hotline, official website, the government “Bekhedmetkom” platform or
the organization’s social media channels.
