Amman, January 19 (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday received the Chair of the UK House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee MP Emily Thornberry and an accompanying delegation, according to a royal court statement.
The meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, covered ways of enhancing the close ties between Jordan and the United Kingdom.
The meeting also covered regional developments, with His Majesty stressing the need to ensure that the Gaza ceasefire holds and to step up international efforts to send aid.
The King warned of the serious consequences of Israel’s unilateral measures against Palestinians in the West Bank, and the ongoing violations of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
His Majesty expressed appreciation for the UK’s support for peace efforts, reiterating that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve stability in the region.
On Syria, the King stressed that its security and stability are essential to the stability of the region.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh attended the meeting.
