Amman, July 25 (Petra) – Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply,
Ya’rub Qudah, announced the complete exemption of Jordanian exports
of garment and textiles of all kinds to the United States from
customs duties.

In a statement, he noted this exemption comes within the framework of
the Reciprocal Trade Agreement signed in Washington last Tuesday.

Accordingly, apparel and textile products of all kinds will will
enter the United States at zero customs duties, reflecting the
agreement’s provisions, which grant the clothing and textile sector
“more preferential access” to the US market.

The United States will, in turn, commit to cutting reciprocal tariffs
imposed on other Jordanian goods to 10%.

On its impact, this step will definitely contribute to increasing
Jordanian exports to the United States, particularly garment and
textiles of all types, which top the list of Jordanian exports to the
US that reached over JD431 million during the first third of this
year.

As for its goals, Jordan and the United States signed a Reciprocal
Trade Agreement last Tuesday to strengthen economic ties, granting
both countries “greater market access” to each other’s exports and
facilitating mutual trade flow.

The agreement, which has been discussed for nearly a year, aims to
build upon the established economic relations between Jordan and the
United States, including the Free Trade Agreement that entered into
force on December 17, 2001.
