Morocco Launches Program to Support Solar Energy Transition for Water Pumping on 51,000 Ha

In response to a question on the use of renewables in the agricultural sector, El Bouari stated that the Agricultural Development Fund (FDA) will provide financial support for the acquisition and installation of solar panels, pumps and related equipment.

He pointed out that this support includes financial assistance of up to 30% of the cost of purchasing and installing the equipment, limited to 30,000 dirhams per project.

The Minister also pointed out that, in line with the Royal High Guidelines, all seawater desalination plants will be powered by renewable energies, as is the case of the Dakhla plant, equipped with wind power which will enable the creation of a 5,000 Ha irrigated perimeter in the area.

In addition, El Bouari noted that future projects and programs will take into account the target of 20% of total energy used in the agricultural sector, as part of the development of climate change resilient agriculture, promoting the use of renewables for agricultural irrigation.

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, announced on Monday at the House of Representatives the first launch since last November of a preliminary program to support the transition to solar energy for pumping irrigation water over an area of 51,000 hectares (Ha).
