Signed to Implement Automated Water Meter Reading Project Between Oman, Algeria

Algiers,
28 July 2026 (ONA) — A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the
Algerian capital, Algiers, between OTEC Company, represented by Future Cities
Company “Tadom”, the Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company
“Nama Water Services”, and the Water and Sanitation Company of
Algiers “SEAAL”, to cooperate in executing a pilot project for an
Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
for water meters using LoRaWAN technology.

This
came at the conclusion of a three-day official visit by a delegation from the
Sultanate of Oman to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, led by Dr.
Ali Amir Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport,
Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information
Technology. The visit aimed to enhance cooperation in technology and digital
solutions, as well as to employ smart systems to elevate the efficiency of
metering operations and improve water resource management.

The
pilot project aims to cover 100 accounts as a first phase within a defined
geographical area. It includes supplying ultrasonic water meters and
supervising their installation, conducting wireless planning for the
communications network, supplying and installing terminal stations and connectivity
components, and linking them to the cloud system within the local cloud,
reflecting the keenness of both sides to exchange expertise and support
technological innovation.
