Amman, July 2 (Petra) -Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
expressed support for the political, legal, and humanitarian role of
the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near
East (UNRWA) in protecting and assisting Palestinian refugees.
In a statement Thursday, the OIC called for safeguarding UNRWA’s
mandate, institutions, and operations, saying that the agency’s
responsibilities stem from UN General Assembly Resolution 302 (1949)
across its five fields of operation.
The organization also urged member states, international partners,
and donor countries to provide “sustained” support for UNRWA to
ensure the continuation of essential services, including education,
healthcare, and social protection for Palestinian refugees.
