Amman, Sept 14 (Petra) — The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC)
said a minor ammonia gas leak occurred at its industrial complex in
Aqaba during maintenance work to remove an old ammonia compressor
belonging to a client firm, clarifying that the leak did not
originate from any of the complex’s main storage tanks.

In a statement issued on Monday, the company confirmed that its
on-site personnel contained the leak in record time and handled the
incident with high professionalism.

The incident resulted in minor injuries to 11 workers, who received
necessary medical care. Most of the injured have been discharged from
the hospital, while a few remain under medical observation as a
precautionary measure.

JPMC commended the rapid response of Civil Defense Directorate (CDD)
teams, the Environment Commission at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone
Authority (ASEZA), local authorities in the Aqaba Governorate, and
the industrial complex’s staff for their prompt and responsible
coordination.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to occupational safety
standards and public safety measures to maintain a safe working
environment across its facilities.
