Police arrest 189 in ongoing crackdown on crystal meth

Amman, Oct. 11 (Petra) — The Public Security Directorate (PSD)
announced Sunday that its Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) is firmly
persisting with a targeted crackdown against crystal methamphetamine
across the Kingdom, warning of severe legal and administrative
penalties for smuggling, trafficking, promoting, or using the lethal
drug.

In a statement, the PSD spokesperson reported that during the 11th
week of the intensive campaign, law enforcement personnel dealt with
129 cases nationwide. These included 40 cases involving trafficking
and promotion of crystal meth and 89 cases of drug use.

Police arrested 62 alleged dealers and promoters, alongside 127 users
involved in these cases. Authorities seized 3.806 kilograms of
crystal methamphetamine from the suspects.

The spokesperson reaffirmed that the anti-drug operation will
continue without leniency until it achieves its objectives of
eradicating the substance, raising public awareness, and prosecuting
anyone involved with the drug, which causes fatal health outcomes and
drives violent crimes that endanger public safety.

The PSD urged citizens to fulfill their social responsibility by
reporting any information regarding crystal meth or suspect activity
to the primary emergency line (911), assuring that all reports are
handled with absolute confidentiality and seriousness.
