Amman, Sept. 8 (Petra) — The Senate’s Jordanian-Greek Friendship
Committee, headed by Senator Mohammed Daoudiyeh, met Tuesday with
Greek Ambassador to Jordan Irene Riga, on the occasion of the end of
her diplomatic mission to the Kingdom.

During the meeting held at the Senate’s headquarters, Daoudiyeh
praised the ambassador’s “tangible” efforts to strengthen friendship
and cooperation between the two countries and to develop ties across
various fields.

He affirmed the “depth” of Jordanian-Greek relations, rooted in a
long history of friendship and mutual respect, calling for further
developing ties, particularly in the economic, trade, investment,
tourism and cultural fields, alongside strengthening parliamentary
cooperation and the exchange of expertise between the Senate and the
Greek Parliament.

Daoudieh underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and
friendship committees in strengthening communication, coordination
and the exchange of views on issues of mutual concern.

He pointed to the friendship and cooperation shared among Jordan,
Greece and Cyprus, and the importance of building on that foundation
to enhance trilateral cooperation in a way that serves common
interests and supports regional security, stability and prosperity.

He also stressed the need for continued Jordanian-Greek coordination
and consultation on regional and international issues, and for
intensifying international efforts to achieve security, peace and
stability.

He cited King Abdullah II’s efforts in defending the Palestinian
cause and protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem
under the historic Hashemite Custodianship, as well as the king’s
role in supporting regional and international security and stability.

For her part, Riga affirmed her country’s keenness to continue
strengthening friendship and cooperation with Jordan and to build on
the advanced levels these relations have reached.

She praised Jordan’s role, under the leadership of King Abdullah II,
in promoting security, stability and peace in the region, and its
efforts to address regional challenges.

Committee members and senators in attendance affirmed the importance
of continuing to develop Jordanian-Greek relations and activating
parliamentary diplomacy and the exchange of expertise, in a way that
contributes to strengthening relations and achieving the shared
interests of the two friendly peoples.

They commended the efforts made by the ambassador throughout her
tenure in the Kingdom.
