Amman, May 19 (Petra) – The Senate’s Palestine Committee on Tuesday
met with the Chinese Ambassador to Jordan, Guo Wei, to discuss the
latest developments in the Palestinian issue, regional and
international developments, and ways to enhance Jordanian-Chinese
cooperation in various fields.

Talking at the talks, Committee Chairman, Senator Mazen Darwazeh,
affirmed Jordan’s “pride in the historical relations and strategic
partnership” between Jordan and China.

Darwazeh also noted the continuous development of these ties at the
political, economic, and parliamentary levels, under the shared
vision of the two countries’ leaderships, which is based on respect
for the states’ sovereignty, support for security and stability, and
the achievement of a just peace.

He pointed to the importance of recent bilateral meetings, mainly His
Majesty King Abdullah II’s talks with the Chinese Foreign Minister in
Amman, and Senate President Faisal Fayez’s visit to Beijing.

Darwazeh also expressed grave concern over the continued Israeli
aggression and violations in the occupied Palestinian territories,
adding that settlement expansion policies and the imposition of a
status quo undermines chances for peace and threatens the region’s
stability.

He stated the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the
stalled efforts to achieve a ceasefire necessitate a firm
international stance.

He called for intensified efforts to solidify the ceasefire, ensure
the delivery of humanitarian aid, support reconstruction, and counter
any schemes aimed at displacing Palestinians or liquidating their
cause.

In turn, Chinese ambassador affirmed the “depth” of
Jordanian-Chinese relations, praising the Kingdom’s pivotal role,
under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership, in consolidating
regional security and stability and supporting peace efforts.

The diplomat commended Jordan’s “firm” positions on the Palestinian
issue, underlining his country’s support for Jordan’s role in
defending the rights of the Palestinian people.

He also reiterated China’s respect and support of the Hashemite
custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The Chinese diplomat affirmed that his country attaches “remarkable”
importance to the Palestinian issue, as the central issue in the
Middle East, reiterating his country’s support for the two-state
solution as the basis for achieving a just and comprehensive peace.

Concluding the meeting, the attending senators commended China’s
supportive stance on the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

They expressed the committee’s hope for a “more active” Chinese role
in the Security Council to support a “serious” political process that
ends the occupation and leads to establishment of an independent
Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East
Jerusalem as its capital.

Additionally, they noted security and stability cannot be achieved
through force, but rather through justice and respect for the rights
of peoples, mainly the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and
independence.
