Geneva, June 30 (QNA) – The Shura Council participated in the 300th Session of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), convened in Geneva, Switzerland.
HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, Member of the Executive Committee of the IPU, and Vice-President of the Committee representing the Arab Geopolitical Group, Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, represented the Council at the session.
The session discussed a range of items on the agenda ahead of convening the 153rd Assembly of the IPU in Arusha, Tanzania, in October 2026.
It also approved the minutes of the previous session and reviewed emerging matters.
The deliberations further addressed the situation of some parliaments, the suggested amendments to the statute, the IPU’s rules, and the continuation of discussions on the election of the President of the IPU and the Vice President of the Executive Committee.
The agenda featured a dedicated segment to mark the International Day of Parliamentarism, which annually falls on June 30, as well as the human rights campaign.
HE the Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, met with HE Anda Philipp, the elected Secretary-General of the IPU, on the sidelines of this session.
Both sides shared perspectives on a variety of issues of shared concern. (QNA)
