Amman, Aug. 4 (Petra) — Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani
Mustafa met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk on
Tuesday to discuss expanding cooperation in social development and
human rights.

During the meeting, Bani Mustafa said Jordan, under the leadership of
His Majesty King Abdullah II, is steadily advancing efforts to
strengthen its human rights framework by developing legislation,
policies, and institutional procedures aimed at safeguarding public
freedoms, ensuring equal opportunities, and reinforcing protection
mechanisms to combat all forms of discrimination.

She said Jordan has made significant progress in promoting public
participation among different segments of society, highlighting
advances in social rights, particularly for groups requiring greater
protection. She pointed to measures taken to safeguard the rights of
persons with disabilities, as well as achievements in advancing
women’s rights and protecting women from violence.

Bani Mustafa also reviewed progress in developing an inclusive and
sustainable social protection system focused on empowerment and
rights-based inclusion as part of Jordan’s national development
priorities.

The two sides also discussed several social programs implemented by
the Ministry of Social Development for targeted groups and explored
ways to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
