Amman, Sept. 4 (Petra)– The United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees (UNHCR) said that 1,795,641 Syrians have returned to their
country since December 8, 2024, indicating an expanding movement of
return.

According to UNHCR data cited by Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency on
Friday, Türkiye, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt were the main
countries from which returnees arrived, with continued movements
recorded through various border crossings.

The UNHCR explained that the return figures are not based on a single
source. Instead, they are calculated by cross-referencing
border-crossing monitoring data with information collected by
monitoring teams and field reports, with the aim of providing more
accurate estimates of the number of Syrians who have returned home.

The agency noted that crossings through official border points
account for the largest share of registered returnees, while it
continues to monitor population movements and update its estimates
based on field data and cross-border movements.

The figures come amid the continued return of Syrians residing in
neighboring countries, alongside ongoing efforts to monitor the
conditions and needs of returnees, particularly in terms of housing,
basic services and ensuring stable conditions for return and
reintegration in their areas of origin.
