WHO: Actual scale of Congo’s Ebola toll far exceeds official count

Amman, July 14 (Petra) – The World Health Organization (WHO) warned
Tuesday that the actual number of Ebola cases in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo (DRC) is likely double to quadruple official
reports.

Chikwe Ihekweazu, WHO’s Executive Director of the Health Emergencies
Program, reported that the number of reported cases is “at least two
to four times larger” after returning from eastern Congo, according
to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The warning comes as the DRC confirmed that Ebola cases rose to
1,963, including 719 deaths, as of July 12.
