London, July 02 (QNA) – A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck the South Sandwich Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean.
The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10.0 kilometers.
The region experiences frequent seismic and volcanic activity due to its location at the intersection of the South American and Antarctic tectonic plates.
The South Sandwich Islands experienced a 5.1-magnitude earthquake on June 30, causing minimal damage due to its remote location. (QNA)
